Can Design improve user compliance for tracking their weight
Novelty Factor- Almost everyone (93%) opened the box and transmitted a few measurements in the first month. Usage though started to drop off every month thereafter.
Sustained Compliance- At end of the year, less than 30% were taking more than one reading a week!
Another group of 194 users, were regularly reminded via email, phone etc. to weigh-in. Even though the user may not be next to the scale when the reminder was received, on average users transmitted over 20 readings a month for the first 2 months, dropping slightly to 18 readings/month by the 6th month. This estbalished that reminders can help users stay on track! The challenge is in delivering reminders in a cost effective way. It is not realistic to expect that everyone would have a smart phone. Sending reminders via IVR and SMS can add up over time.
Timely reminders delivered at the right place and at the right time
How about if the scale itself were to remind the user to weigh-in! Users can now program multiple reminder schedules on the web and sync it to the Blip scale. There is no additional cost for delivering the reminder too. Timely reminder leads to better compliance and thus better weight tracking.
